Zhengyan (“true cliff”) means the tea grew inside the Wuyi Shan scenic reserve, on the narrow terraces between the peaks. The soil there is volcanic tuff and the light is dappled, and the resulting leaf is what Chinese drinkers mean by yan yun — a mineral coolness that lingers after you swallow. It is always the most expensive Wuyi grade.
