Description
Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea | The Smoothest Daily Drinker | Hand-Rolled White Tea (Shouning, Fujian)
This is the scented tea I drink most. Not the most expensive one we sell. The easiest one. dragon pearl jasmine tea are hand-rolled at origin from Fuding Dabai white tea leaves — the same large-leaf cultivar that gives Silver Needle, White Peony, and Shou Mei their character [ 4-types-of-white-tea]. The leaves are then layered with fresh jasmine blossoms seven times. Brew them hot or cold. Forget them in the mug for an hour. They still taste fine.
What Is Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea?
dragon pearl jasmine tea are a Chinese scented white tea. The base starts as one bud and one young leaf from Fuding Dabai cultivar bushes grown in Shouning, Fujian. Each portion is hand-rolled into a tight little sphere, then layered with freshly picked jasmine blossoms overnight until the leaves absorb the floral oils.
That combination of hand-rolling and jasmine scenting is what gives the pearls their look and their scent. The 2026 lot I have on my desk smells like walking past a garden wall at dusk.
If you’re new to white tea in general, our white tea beginner’s guide walks through how white tea’s minimal processing — sun-wither, no rolling, no heat — keeps the leaf closer to its living state than any other tea category [inferred — verify]. Jasmine dragon pearls are a scented extension of that same family: same leaf, same cultivar, just rolled and perfume-loaded.
dragon pearl jasmine tea are not the cheapest tea on our shelf. They are the most floral. That is why we put them in the daily drinker section.

How the pearls are made?
Pick one bud and one young leaf. Roll it between the palms until it forms a tight ball. Repeat for every pearl. One worker makes about 500 grams of finished pearls in a full day.
Then the scenting starts. Fresh jasmine blossoms are picked at dusk, when the flowers are just opening. The pearls and blossoms are layered together on bamboo trays. By morning the blossoms come off. The pearls rest until evening. The cycle repeats — five to seven times for a proper batch.
Cheap pearls stop at one round. The jasmine fades by the second steep. Premium jasmine dragon pearls go all seven rounds. You can read more about the scenting process on the Wikipedia jasmine tea page and in the official Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences tea research guides.
What Do Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea Taste Like?
Fresh 2026 dragon pearl jasmine tea taste floral first, sweet second. The jasmine hits the front of your tongue. The finish is honey-like, with a faint dried-fruit note. The white tea base keeps the cup smooth, even at 3 minutes of steep time.
Cold-brewed jasmine dragon pearls taste clean and bright. No bitterness, even at fridge temperature.
Old dragon pearl jasmine tea taste different. After a year, the jasmine fades and the white tea base shows. You get hay, dried longan, and a softer body — closer in profile to an aged Shou Mei than a fresh pearl [inferred — verify against /shou-mei-white-tea-stem-aging-guide/]. Still good tea. Just a different cup.
I tasted a 2023 lot last month. The jasmine was almost gone. The white tea underneath reminded me of the deeper, date-and-walnut notes that show up in aged Shou Mei. Worth drinking. Just not the same experience as a fresh pour.
For a full breakdown of how each white tea type ages in its own way, see our Shou Mei aging guide. The same principles apply — it’s just that the jasmine fades faster than the underlying leaf flavor.

Are Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea High in Caffeine?
Not at all, but they do sit comfortably in the moderate zone. There is a widespread myth in the West that all white tea is naturally caffeine-free or extremely low in caffeine. However, because premium jasmine pearls are hand-rolled from tender, young spring buds, they naturally carry a clean, vibrant energy profile.
According to data referenced from the USDA FoodData Central database on tea caffeine profiles, a typical 8 oz cup of white or green tea averages around 30 to 50 mg of caffeine, while the same size drip coffee packs about 95 mg. Thanks to the high concentration of L-theanine in our young spring harvest, this caffeine is released slowly, giving you a sustained focus without the coffee jitters.
The leaves also carry L-theanine, an amino acid that softens the caffeine effect. There is research on this combo in the NIH PubMed database on L-theanine and caffeine interaction.
The bigger health story with white tea is what stays in the leaf rather than what comes out in the cup. Because white tea is barely processed, it retains a higher share of its raw polyphenols and catechins than green, oolong, or black tea [what-is-white-tea-good-for]. Most of the research summarized on this front — antioxidant activity, skin benefits, cardiovascular markers — is exactly the work covered in our white tea benefits guide.
I cold-brew a liter of jasmine dragon pearls in the evening. I drink it through the next afternoon. I sleep fine. If you are very caffeine-sensitive, drop to 5 g per liter and stick to mornings.
How Long Do Dragon Pearl Jasmine Tea Last?
White tea does not expire like food does. But dragon pearl jasmine tea are different from a plain Shou Mei. The jasmine fades faster than the tea base. So time your use by the scent, not the calendar.
| Age | Flavor Profile |
|---|---|
| 0 – 3 months | Strong jasmine, bright sweetness |
| 3 – 6 months | Balanced, full floral |
| 6 – 12 months | Honey forward, jasmine fading |
| 12 – 24 months | Mellow, hay notes, jasmine gone |
| 24 + months | Tastes like Shou Mei, no jasmine left |
Store the pearls in an airtight tin, in a dark cupboard, at room temperature. Do not refrigerate. Condensation on cold leaves will ruin them. Keep them away from sunlight, heat, and strong odors like spices or coffee.
If your bag is past the 12-month mark, brew it hot and short. The white tea base still cups nicely. The jasmine just won’t carry.
Where Are dragon pearl jasmine tea Grown?
This tea comes from Shouning County, in the mountains of northeastern Fujian. The farms sit at 800 to 1,200 meters elevation. The 2026 harvest came from plots around 914 m (3,000 ft), in the same hills where our other Shouning white teas grow.
Shouning is a well-documented white tea region. You can read more in the Shouning County Wikipedia page and the regional National Tea Industry Technology System updates.
The combination of altitude, mist, and a 10°C day-night temperature swing makes the leaves grow slowly. That slow growth is what gives the white tea base its amino acid density. The jasmine flowers grow on the same farms, picked at dusk during the scenting season.
Who Should Drink dragon pearl jasmine tea?
This is the scented tea to keep on the counter all the time.
- Commute mug drinkers: Brew 4 g in a thermos. It still tastes fine at 11 a.m.
- First-time jasmine tea drinkers: Hard to mess up. Hot water, 2-minute steep, drink.
- Cold brew fans: This is the cleanest cold-brew tea on our shelf.
- Gifting: A 100 g tin of fresh 2026 pearls outranks most supermarket flowers.

Quick FAQ
Are dragon pearl jasmine tea good for cold brew? Yes. Cold brew is one of their best uses. Use 5 to 7 g per liter. Steep 6 to 8 hours in the fridge. The cup is clean, lightly floral, and never bitter.
Do dragon pearl jasmine tea have antioxidants? Yes. Like other minimally processed white teas, jasmine dragon pearls contain catechins and other polyphenols. According to the NIH PubMed database on white tea catechins, minimally processed teas retain high polyphenol levels. These statements reflect general research and are not medical claims.
Is dragon pearl jasmine tea safe during pregnancy? Like all genuine teas, jasmine dragon pearls naturally contain caffeine (derived from their premium white tea base). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) pregnancy guidelines recommend keeping total daily caffeine intake under 200 mg during pregnancy. While a single 5g serving of our hand-rolled pearls brewed at the recommended temperature falls well within this safety threshold, everyone’s sensitivity varies—please talk to your doctor or healthcare provider about your specific situation.
Can I age dragon pearl jasmine tea on purpose? You can. After 2 to 3 years, the jasmine fades and the white tea base takes over. The flavor moves toward dried dates and soft wood. It is a different tea, not a better one. If you want a true aging white tea — and want to know what the stems add to that aging curve — our Shou Mei stems aging guide goes deep on that topic . For most drinkers, jasmine dragon pearls are best enjoyed fresh, within the first 12 months.
